March 2018 Recap: In Like a Lion

March was a good month. The snowpack finally started to fatten up (even at the mid-elevations) and we had fairly consistent storms. We skied 13 days in March, which feels like regular skiing, and regular skiing is good for the soul. There were some fantastic dawn patrols on the Emma Ridge, a surprise over-producer storm day in Pink Pine, and a couple more fun days in Mill D.

Towards the very end of the month we got an atmospheric river even which came in too warm and it ended up raining all the way up to 10,500 feet (crazy!), coating everything with an ice layer. At least that mitigated the deep slab problem a bit?

A scary hard slab I triggered in Porter Fork...

Which led us back to low angled powder...

Some awesome dawn patrol sunrises...

I had to go to Santa Monica for a couple days for work. The beach is nice for a (single) day, but I feel lucky to call the Wasatch home.

Back home...

Lift day at Deer Valley...

In between storms we were stoked and booked a March 2019 trip to a backcountry lodge in British Columbia! :-)

Back to dawn patrolling...

And bluebird powder turns...

The monthly routine continued, as it got really warm to finish out the month as we moved into April.
