Squeezing in a couple favorites

Over the May 19-20th weekend we got in a few more fun spring couloirs. I had to go to Las Vegas for work for a couple days so it was especially refreshing to get back on Saturday and find that the Pipeline Couloir smooth (no runnel), wide, and that continuous snow ran from the top all the way to the creekside parking area. Not bad given the low snow year.

After we finished we took a look at Mt Superior and it seemed like the choke/waterfall on Suicide Chute wasn't too tricky. We went back to ski it the next day and the conditions we so fun that we did it twice.

Its really winding down now... I'm not finished yet but I'm starting the process of cleaning/storing gear for the summer. We're gone for Memorial Day so the first weekend of June will be the next (and probably last) chance to ski this spring.

Superior, Timp, and more (you guessed it!) Wildflowers!

Andrea scrambling on Superior's South Ridge

I've been posting pictures of wildflowers and mountains all summer and that isn't changing in this update. The flowers down by Timp were absolutely popping when we were down there over the past weekend (8/12). We also got in another south ridge climb recently - always fun to do a couple times a year.

The summer of exploding rainbow flowers rolls on...

A hot start to July - Superior, Tetons, and Anniversary Skiing!

July 4th at Taggart Lake in GTNP

Its been hot lately. HOT as in 100+ degrees almost every day. And hot as in lots of awesome stuff going on. In the past two weeks we've run and hiked all kinds of Wasatch and Teton trails, climbed the South Ridge of Superior for the first time this season, spent 4 awesome days with our friends at a cabin in Grand Teton National Park, and even managed to get out for a wedding anniversary ski to officially cap off the ski season.

The last thing I mentioned is something we had been hoping to do since way back in January - as the snowpack piled up we thought there was a chance we could make it all the way to July 9th,  but the super-hot weather over the past 6 weeks reduced our buffer. After spending most of our anniversary weekend with friends up at Deer Valley, we decided to take a chance on skiing Main Chute one last time. You don't know if you don't go!... it was the ideal to finish off our best ski season ever. I'm sure we won't be able to ski at Alta on our anniversary most years, so we have to take advantage of the chances we get.
